During this time of Sheltering in Place, Shir Hadash has been able to quickly pivot to become an “online synagogue” — but we miss gathering together and we miss seeing you! In an effort to build community and commemorate this time in our lives, we are introducing Porch Portraits.

Porch Portraits are scheduled for a specific date & time with a 15-minute window; a Shir Hadash member photographer arrives at the appointed time; the individual, couple or family emerge from their home and remain on their porch or balcony. The photographer takes the photos from a safe social distancing 10 feet.

The photographer will shoot 2–3 poses plus a tight shot (head & shoulder), and the head & shoulder photo will be uploaded to our secure online Member Directory thereby enhancing our community and allowing us to “see” one another easily.

You may prepare for your Porch Portrait however you would like — dressed for a nice family portrait, wearing a costume, holding signs (e.g., #ShirHadashSmiles or #InThisTogether) — it is your choice.

The Porch Portrait is free. If you would like digital copies of your Porch Portrait, including all poses, we are suggesting a small donation to the New Song Relief Fund at Shir Hadash.

Porch Portraits are a way of celebrating our community and to virtually join together with our smiling faces!
